The writer Ian Dickson, in , researching this topic, believes this to be the first full account of the dredgers and tugs of Irvine harbour during its days as a working port. This article is also available as a download in pdf format. Dredgers were essential to prevent the harbour silting up. The channel had to be kept open, in the midth century, for coastal vessels up to a depth of sixteen or seventeen feet.

The Old Dreghorn Primary School was built in and closed in , and was the primary school attended by First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon amongst many others. The keys were received from North Ayrshire Council in the first week of October, and Arran Brewery staff first entered the site on the 10th of October Due to break-in’s at the site, vandalism, problems attaining planning permissions and restructuring within the Brewery, work at Dreghorn never really started, and the site was only ever used for storage and as a mainland warehouse a function it retains at the date of writing.
Irvine is an ancient settlement, in medieval times a royal burgh, and now a new town on the Dreghorn, a separate village on the outskirts of Irvine, appears to contain archaeological remains dating back to the first incursions Irvine Herald.
The Census recorded the town’s population at 33, inhabitants, making it the largest settlement in North Ayrshire. Irvine was the site of Scotland’s 12th century military capital and former headquarters of the Lord High Constable of Scotland , Hugh de Morville. The town was once a haunt of Robert Burns , after whom two streets in the town are named: Burns Street and Burns Crescent. He is known to have worked in a flax mill on the Glasgow Vennel.
Despite being classed as a new town, Irvine has had a long history stretching back many centuries and was classed as a Royal Burgh. There is still a yearly festival, called Marymass, held in the town. Part of modern Irvine contains the oldest continually inhabited village in Europe. Iron Age Hill forts are abundant. The Grannie stone or Granny Stane is described as “one of Irvine’s prehistoric puzzles”, this boulder is either left behind from the Ice Age or is the last remaining stone of a stone circle — others were removed, by blasting, after the Irvine weir was constructed in , but popular protests saved this remaining stone.
The Grannie Stane is visible when the water is low. The medieval parish of Irvine was one of the most important regions in Scotland.

Paul Robert Martin-Irvine, 62, was convicted of three counts of sexual activity with the woman, who did not have the mental capacity to consent. The court heard how he groomed the East Devon woman, in her 40s, and carried out the acts over a year — despite a police warning to stay away. Prosecuting, Nicolas Gerasimidis said the pair had met in and Martin-Irvine groomed the victim with gifts, such as a gold necklace, black underpants and a small passport-sized photo of him. He made me go to bed with him.
She was clearly vulnerable in the context of a relationship and in the context of a sexual relationship. Shortly after Martin-Irvine was caught embracing the victim, a clinical assessment showed she was of a very low intelligence and lacked the understanding for a sexual relationship. In October , police officers informed Martin-Irvine at his home that the victim was not capable of consenting to sexual acts and he should avoid contact with her.
But the following year the victim feared she was pregnant and, during a trip to her doctor, it emerged the pair had recently had sex. She was scared and was doing what he told her. The court heard he used condoms and made the victim clean herself and use talcum powder after intercourse — to hide the smell of sex.

The Rams announced the move one day before their veterans report to training camp for their homecoming season in Southern California. Foles hasn’t been around the Rams since they traded up to choose California quarterback Jared Goff with the No. The veteran skipped offseason workouts while Los Angeles attempted to trade him. Instead, the Rams had to release a capable veteran quarterback without compensation after teams likely realized they could attempt to sign Foles as a free agent.
Los Angeles also got a second-round pick in the deal, and they used it as part of the package to move up to grab Goff. Foles started 11 games for St. Louis, including the first nine of the season. He passed for 2, yards and seven touchdowns with 10 interceptions, never having a yard game and failing to breathe much life into the NFL’s worst passing offense.
Foles eventually lost the starting job to Case Keenum, who played the final four games of the Rams’ 12th consecutive non-winning season. Goff and Keenum are competing for the top job at the Rams’ training camp in Irvine, California, over the next five weeks. Sean Mannion and Dylan Thompson also are on the roster for the Rams, who hold their first public workout Saturday. Fisher initially said he hoped Goff would start their season opener at San Francisco in September, but has since downplayed the importance of that possibility.
The coach described Keenum as the Rams’ starting quarterback when offseason workouts concluded last month, but Goff will have the chance to play his way onto the field. Foles made the Pro Bowl with the Eagles in , throwing 27 touchdown passes with just two interceptions in a remarkable second season in the NFL.

Shortly after a concert had finished in the performance hall, senior Ben Irvine suddenly strolled onstage, carrying a box of chocolate in one hand. He told the audience he needed to see Sydney Skaro, a friend of his and fellow musician who had just performed in the concert. Other attempts resembled mini-scavenger hunts. Halverson and his friend, Zack Campbell, together planned for their dates to retrieve gifts at Starbucks, American Eagle and the pet shop.
Some students just wanted their proposal to be competitive. For instance, senior Ariana Storbakken created a puzzle for boyfriend, sophomore Carson Dennis. Each class hour, he received one piece of the puzzle directing him to find the next one. Such grand gestures get immediately captured on social media, which encourages students to up the wow factor.
